Essential information

  • Ten minutes maintains continuity and lowers the barrier to starting.
  • Twelve micro-sessions cover comprehension, production and maintenance.
  • A two-week calendar rotates skills and ends with a mini-diagnostic.
  • Keep one or two full simulations each week.

What you need to know

When your schedule is full, the biggest difficulty is not working for a long time: it is starting. A ten-minute micro-session removes the obstacle: it needs little equipment, no preparation, and little energy. Repeated every day, it keeps continuity between longer sessions.

Micro-sessions are not meant to replace everything. They suit short gestures: listening to an extract, rewriting a sentence, reviewing ten words, rereading an error. Full simulations keep their place once or twice a week.

Twelve ready-to-use micro-sessions

Listening: play a short extract and note the decisive piece of information (a number, a place, a change); or do one minute of shadowing on an extract you have already worked on. Reading: read a short message and restate it in one sentence; or spot five connectors in an article and note their function.

Writing: rewrite a weak sentence in three ways; or write a two-sentence introduction for a prompt. Speaking: answer a question in sixty seconds; or formulate three follow-up questions for a situation.

Maintenance: review ten vocabulary cards; correct five sentences from your error notebook; reread five lines of that notebook; or take a five-question timed mini-diagnostic.

Assembling a week

Apply the rule of three rotations: each day, one comprehension micro-session, one production micro-session, and one maintenance micro-session if you have thirty minutes spread over the day; otherwise, a single daily micro-session that rotates through the skills.

Write the day’s micro-session on a sheet before you leave, for example “Thursday: rewrite a sentence in three versions”. A decision already made removes hesitation at the moment of starting. Keep two longer slots in the week for a simulation and a full analysis.

On commutes and breaks: practical advice

Prepare your equipment the day before: headphones, the platform open in the browser, your error notebook within reach. Pack Ayoub is used in the browser, including on mobile, which makes short sessions easier; guides explain use on Android and iPhone.

Adapt the micro-session to the place: in a noisy place, favour reading, card review, and writing; in a quiet one, listening and speaking. Never practise while driving or while walking in an environment where you need to stay alert: safety comes before preparation.

A two-week calendar

Week 1: Monday, listening and decisive information; Tuesday, rewriting one sentence; Wednesday, review of ten cards; Thursday, a sixty-second spoken answer; Friday, spotting connectors; Saturday, rereading the error notebook; Sunday, a timed mini-diagnostic.

Week 2: repeat the same rotation with different content, and replace two micro-sessions with one full simulation in your weakest skill. At the end of week two, compare your mini-diagnostic with the one from week 1.

The limits to know

Ten minutes is not enough for a writing or speaking simulation: time management and stamina are trained in full sessions. Ten minutes is not enough to analyse an error at length either. Use micro-sessions to maintain, repeat, and prepare, and keep long sessions for analysis and production.

Frequently asked questions

Is ten minutes a day enough to prepare for the TCF Canada?

It maintains continuity and keeps what you know fresh, but it does not replace full simulations and analyses. Combine it with one or two longer sessions a week.

Can I practise speaking on public transport?

In a quiet place, or in a whisper, you can answer a question or formulate follow-ups. If the setting is noisy, choose a reading or card-review activity.

Can I use Pack Ayoub on mobile?

Yes. Pack Ayoub is used in the browser, including on mobile. Guides explain use on Android and iPhone.

Which micro-sessions give the best results?

Those that produce something: rewriting a sentence, answering in sixty seconds, correcting an error. Passive reading has less effect than a short activity with production.

When should I do a full simulation?

Once or twice a week, in a slot where you can stay focused without interruption, to train time management and stamina.
